History of Wandlhof

“Wandlhof” was first mentioned in written records around 1662. As the name Wandl was very common in the village of St. Martin, the farm was given the name “Stiegenwandl” to distinguish it more clearly. The name developed from the stone outdoor staircase in front of the house.

Since 1662, generations of the Wandl family have lived and farmed on the property. Marie Wandl (born in 1938) still lives on the farm today as the last member of the Wandl family bearing the name.

The farm is widely known for its large traditional farmhouse parlor (50 m²) featuring a self-supporting wooden beam ceiling built around 1800. In the spacious vaulted entrance hall, there is a stone water basin. Another special feature is the vaulted stable area, which was also constructed around 1800.

Through continuous expansions and renovations, Wandlhof has been preserved in its present form and continues to thrive as a working farm with a rich history.

Agricultural Farm

Our farm is located at an altitude of 620 meters in the market town of St. Martin, which has approximately 1,100 inhabitants. Our organic circular farming operation includes around 8 hectares of arable land, 8 hectares of meadows, and approximately 16 hectares of forest. The farm is certified according to the standards of ABG (Austria Bio Garantie). Our main farming activities are suckler cow farming, laying hens, and pig fattening.

In addition to various types of grain (wheat, oats, rye, triticale, and barley), we also grow table potatoes and field vegetables. Forestry is another important branch of our farming operation.
